What free voice cloning includes
Free sounds good until you find the fine print. So here is the fine print first. A free Clonylab account is the Trial plan. It needs an account and an email address, and it does not need a card. It never turns into a paid plan on its own.
| Free Trial | Pro and Team | |
|---|---|---|
| Cloned voices | Up to 3 | Unlimited |
| Characters | 300, one time | Unlimited |
| Script length | Up to 150 characters each | No limit |
| Standard voices | All 38 | All 38 |
| MP3 and WAV downloads | Yes | Yes |
| AI connection (MCP) | No | Yes |
| Import and Export Data | Button shown, upgrade needed | Yes |
| Credit line when you share | “Made with Clonylab” | None |
Making a clone is free. The 300-character allowance counts the text you turn into speech, so it is worth planning what you want to hear first.
What 300 characters gets you
Three hundred characters is about three or four sentences. It is enough to hear whether your clone sounds like you, and not enough to narrate a video. That is on purpose. The free plan is a fair test drive, and the limit is shown in the Studio all the time: “300 trial characters left”.
Each script can have up to 150 characters, so a good plan is two scripts. Use the first to check the sound of your voice. Use the second to check how it handles the kind of line you really need, such as a greeting, a product name or a longer sentence.
| Script | What to write | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| 1: a plain sentence | A normal line about your day | Does it sound like you? |
| 2: your real use | The first line of your next video or podcast | Does it suit your work? |
How to clone your voice for free
Create a free account
Sign up with an email address and confirm it. You do not enter a card.
Record about 10 seconds
Open Clone and record in a quiet room, or upload a recording you already have. Clonylab needs at least 3 seconds of speech and uses the first 10. The full walk-through is on the voice clone online page.

Record in the browser or upload a file. The first 10 seconds are used. Name it, confirm it, create it
Give the voice a name, choose Female or Male, confirm that it is your own voice and press Create voice. In the Studio, switch to Cloned and pick it.

A name, a choice of Female or Male, and your confirmation.
Three free clones: how to use them
Most people stop at one clone. Three gives you room to compare, and you can keep the best one.
- Your everyday voice. The one you would record anyway, in your normal speaking style.
- A different delivery. The same voice, recorded more calmly or more energetically, to see how much the sample shapes the result.
- A voice you have permission to clone. For example a colleague who agreed clearly. The Terms allow this only with the speaker’s clear, lawful permission.
The honest parts of “free”
- An account is required. Free means no payment. You still make an account.
- Sharing needs a credit. On the Trial plan, you credit “Made with Clonylab” when you share the voice-overs.
- It is English only. A cloned voice reads English text.
- The first use downloads files. Clonylab downloads the model files once, and your browser keeps them. The Studio shows each voice’s download size.
- Your clones live in your browser. Clearing your site data removes them, so keep your original recording.
If you know all that and still want more, the next step is Pro. It removes the character limit and the number of clones, and it adds the AI connection. Until then, the free plan is a real way to decide.
Free does not mean your voice is the price
Some free voice tools pay for themselves with your data. Clonylab does not need to, because the clone is built in your browser. The recording and the voice made from it are stored only in your browser, and we never receive them. The Privacy policy lists the few things we do store, such as your account email and simple usage numbers.
If privacy is your main question, the page on private voice cloning goes through what stays in your browser and how you can check it yourself.
A ten-minute test plan for your free clones
You get three clones and 300 characters. That is plenty if you use it on purpose. Here is a plan that answers the question “is this good enough for me?” in about ten minutes.
| Minute | What to do | What you learn |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 2 | Make a free account and record your first sample with the passage on the clone my voice page | Whether the recording tools work on your computer |
| 2 to 4 | Create the voice and wait for the first-time download to finish | How fast your device is |
| 4 to 6 | Generate a plain sentence in your clone (about 100 characters) | Whether it sounds like you |
| 6 to 8 | Generate your real first line with the same clone (up to 150 characters) | Whether it fits your content |
| 8 to 10 | Generate the same line in one standard voice | Whether your clone or a premade voice suits the job better |
After that you will know three things: how it sounds, how fast it is in your browser, and whether you want a voice that is yours or a premade one. Those are the three reasons people upgrade, or decide not to.
Who can stay on the free plan, and who can’t
The free plan is not a trap, and it is not meant for production work either. Here is an honest split.
| You are | Free is enough if | You need Pro if |
|---|---|---|
| Curious | You want to hear what a clone sounds like | You want to keep going after the first test |
| A creator | You make a short clip now and then | You make videos every week |
| A teacher | You test one lesson intro | You voice whole lessons |
| A business owner | You try a greeting or a product line | You need many scripts, or longer ones |
| A developer | You look at what Clonylab does | You want AI apps to make voice-overs with the AI connection |
If you land in the right-hand column, Pro is ₹499 a month, or US$6 outside India, with yearly billing for less. You can read what unlimited covers on the unlimited text to speech page.
Four mistakes that waste a free clone
- Recording in a noisy room. The clone copies the noise. Find a quiet corner first.
- Using all 300 characters on one long line. Spread them over a few short tests instead.
- Cloning a voice you do not have permission for. The Terms forbid it, and you confirm permission before every clone.
- Forgetting your original recording. Clones live in your browser. If your site data is cleared, you will want the recording to make the voice again.
None of these costs money, and all of them cost time. A minute of care saves a clone.
